'Barrytown Trilogy: The Commitments, The Snapper & The Van', by Roddy Doyle. This is probably Roddy Doyle's best known work and it captures perfectly Dublin in the late eighties and early nineties. The Snapper is book two of the Barrytown trilogy, which also includes "The Commitments" (yes, it was made into a movie), and "The Van". The trilogy follows one working-class Irish family. In the novels, The Commitments, The Snapper and The Van, Roddy Doyle shows his support of the family as an institution.
