I should've made the complete Nero Wolfe one of my selections because no mystery writer's works have given me more joy than those. I've only read the novels and while most of them (excepting The Dain Curse) are great, The Maltese Falcon is my favourite. And in our DVD section, we have the first three Thin Man movies. 1) Red Harvest by Hammett 2) Maltese Falcon by Hammett 3) Glass Key by Hammett 4) Dain Curse by Hammett 5) The Thin Man by Hammett (there's a pattern here, but that's because IMHO no one else has come close to Hammett in crime fiction) Dashiell Hammett, The Maltese Falcon 2. Crime tale, Red Harvest (1929), it is also, in my opinion, vastly inferior both to his immediately following works, The Maltese Falcon (1930) and The Glass Key (1931), and even to his last novel, the slick (if rather facile) The Thin Man (1934). No shock there Marcus is the editor of Hammett's Crime Stories and Other Writings and Complete Novels for the Library of America.
